6000 Kalmyks Gather for ‘Offering of Melody’ Dedicated to Dalai Lama’s Long Life

A gathering attracting more than 6000 people performed the ‘Offering of Melody’ which is dedicated to the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s health and long life. The offerings event has been organized during the most important month of Saga Dawa from the Buddhist Lunar Calendar.

The annual event took place in the front courtyard of Central Buddhist Monastery of Kalmyk Republic. According to official report, there were over 700 Dombra (National two-stringed guitar) players performing under the instruction of conductor Mr. Savar Katayev, “National Hero” award winner of the Republic of Kalmykia and music composer.

The ‘Offering of Melody’ was witnessed by a gathering of more than 6000 people. While the offering was dedicated to health and long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the gathering offered their prayers to the spiritual leader and made prayers for a visit by His Holiness to the Republic of Kalmykia and bless their people.

According to the report in CTA’s official website, the annual event began in 2015 under the leadership of Honorary representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Russia, Mongolia and CIS countries, Telo Tulku Rinpoche. Initially, there were only over 200 Dombra players who participated in the event but annually it has gradually grown to over 700 gathered on this auspicious occasion of the holy month of Saga Dawa. Today the event has become a huge annual event with the purpose of preserving culture, music, folklore, and promotion of the 2 stringed National instrument, “Dombra”.
