CTA Further Clarifies Dalai Lama’s Buddha Remark To Our Nepali Brothers And Sisters

Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) Department of Information has published an article concerning the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Buddha remark recently during an interactive session at a school in Meerut, India. A clip of which had been circulated on the social media and used to mislead the Nepalese brothers and sisters.

The CTA clarification explains the specific term ‘nonsense’ used by His Holiness in the remark.

“While it might sound impolitic to explicate the finer nuances of His Holiness’ message, but we can decipher the core message of His Holiness’ teachings, that of oneness of humanity and universal values. In this light, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s core  message is clear. He was trying to imply the futility of petty squabbles over Buddha’s origin while we ignore his teachings and the path that he has shown.” explains the article published by the staff writer, Jamphel Shonu.

“The ‘nonsense’ remark that His Holiness the Dalai Lama made was directed to the petty squabbles, not our Nepalese brothers and sisters. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a champion of peace and compassion who has dedicated his entire life to advance oneness of humanity and respect for all sentient beings.” the report quoted Mr. Sonam Norbu Dagpo, Secretary of Department of Information and International Relations and Spokesperson of Central Tibetan Administration.

“In that sense, it’s puerile even to imagine that His Holiness the Dalai Lama would call a fellow human being as nonsense, let alone the Nepalese people who share historic and cultural bonds with Tibet. However, what is actually nonsense is the time and energy we waste on debating the birthplace of the Buddha. Rather, we should discuss his philosophy and his teachings. We need them more than all the petty debates,” he further explained in the report.

In addition to this, the article also warned against the individuals who joined in to create a social unrest by spreading untrue interpretation of the message without understanding the entire picture of the incident and inciting unrest misusing the power of social media as they rightly did in this case.

Besides the office of His Holiness the Dalai lama had also issued a public notice in the view of wide spread misunderstanding in the public, especially among our Nepali brothers and sisters earlier. While the episode of misunderstanding has well been cleared, this should be a lesson to how we should react to such outbreak in the future.
