The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Monday launched ‘Happiness Curriculum’ introduced by the Delhi government at a function in the capital. The launch ceremony was attended also by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM cum Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia.
“Delhi Government has announced the introduction of “happiness curriculum” in nursery, primary and secondary schools. The curriculum was launched by Dalai Lama on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister, announced about the programme last Sunday.” said the report in Financial Express.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the launch event told that India is the only country that can bring together modern education and ancient Indian knowledge, saying that it is required to deal with the spreading destructive emotions around the world. His Holiness also added the initiative from the Delhi government will have world wide impact.
“India is the only country that can bring together modern education and ancient Indian knowledge. This is needed to deal with the destructive emotions in the world. So what is being started in Delhi schools can have an impact on the whole world. What we need in the world today is an education of values, not based on any religion, but based on common sense and scientific knowledge,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama told at the launch event on Monday.
The curriculum designed by around 35-40 experts after working on it from the beginning of this year focuses on meditation, moral teachings, and mental exercises, with the aim of turning students into good human beings and it will be taught to all students from nursery to class VIII from next month in around 1000 schools under Delhi government.
“The curriculum will be taught to around eight lakh students – right from nursery up to class 8, of all the Delhi government schools from July.” according to Deputy CM Manish Sisodia at the event.
The happiness curriculum is reported to be introduced in Delhi’s Government schools from the coming academic session. This introduction is a realisation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long preached message that stressed on the need of a change in the education system by including education of the heart in contrary to the existing system that strongly stressed upon materialism.
