DIIR Kalon Dicki Chhoyang’s Resignation Adds New Twist To Sikyong Election

With the elections on the very proximity, the announcement by DIIR Kalon Dicki Chhoyang on Sunday morning at a press conference about her immediate resignation from her responsibility from that instant has added new twists to the on going Sikyong elections due this March.

Dicki Chhoyang has been a very prominent figure of Lobsang Sangay’s current cabinet with her ultra active role as the Department of Information and International Relations Kalon over the past four and half years. The sudden news of her resignation is allegedly an indication of the rift within the current Kashag. Many people have already got restless of the incident and resorted to social media requesting the Kalon to open up about her resignation before the final election.

Dicki Chhoyang addressed the press in front of the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives in Gangchen Kyishong, she said that she has formally summited her resignation to the Prime Minister (Sikyong) Dr. Lobsang Sangay. She said also informed that she has given a copy of her resignation letter to the Secretary of Kashag Secretariat, the two Secretaries of her department and the Tibet Policy Institute.

“My Decision was made with careful deliberation, bearing in mind our collective interest and the significant challenges that lie ahead. It has been a tremendous honor to serve the Tibetan people as Kalon,” said the 50 year old Kalon.

“I would, in detail, explain the reasons for my resignation in the near future.” she said promised.

“May his wishes as well as the aspiration of our brothers and sisters in Tibet be fulfilled,” she concluded her resignation statement with a sad heart.

However later in the day, Incumbent Sikyong Lobsang Sangay explained in announcement about her resignation that Kalon Dicki Chhoyang has resigned to be able to take part in the election activities as she was restricted from taking part in it as a working Kalon. Sikyong Lobsang Sangay has taken up the interim role of the outgoing Kalon after the resignation.
