Forbes Call Dalai Lama’s Mind Training Lesson Revolutionary

A short clip of the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama giving a mind training lesson to a group of visitors at his residence in Dharamshala, India went viral and an article published by the Forbes calls it revolutionary. The article explains that the important lesson has a revolutionary perspective.

On February 11, 2019, His Holiness the Dalai Lama explained on how to train our mind to tackle destructive emotions during a meeting with a group from India at his residence in Dharamsala, HP, India. The short clip of his teaching went viral on the social media.

According to the video, His Holiness explains, anger, hatred, fear are destructive emotions and these destroy inner peace. The counter measures to these destructive emotions, drugs and alcohol has no use. Only constructive emotions, within emotions such as compassion, patience are the antidotes to those destructive emotions.

He also explained that like physical health can not be achieved through prayers but by taking care of your body and avoiding negative things such as germs. Then the immune system will increase. As analyzed by the Forbes article by its contributor Brett Steenbarger, the lesson is revolutionary in the following way;

“What the Dalai Lama proposes, however, is that we can do far more than minimize negatives. We can train ourselves to sustain whole new levels of consciousness that expand the self.” said the article adding that the Dalai Lama suggests that, “we can treat life as a spiritual gym, where challenges provide regular opportunities to exercise our capacities for love, compassion, and joy.”

The writer concluded that the message of the Dalai Lama suggests that we can literally train ourselves for transcendence.
