Dalai Lama reaches Tawang after a drive of about 7 hours by road, where a grand reception of has been prepared to welcome him. The people of the state say that it is a dream come true moment for them. Despite the stern reactions coming out from China against India, Dalai Lama finally arrived to the climax of his visit, Tawang.
Though the Dalai Lama was scheduled to arrive in Tawang on April 4, he has reached the beautiful place in Indian border territory today after his helicopter journey had been rescheduled due to bad weather conditions. People of Tawang has lined up on both sides of the road along Tawang old market leading to Tawang monastery to welcome His Holiness.
“Since morning, the residents of Tawang had again started washing and cleaning the roads in order to welcome Dalai Lama, the same manner in which they prepared for his arrival on April 4.’ said the report in Indian Express. The report also added that a large number of devotees from the neighbouring places have been camping in Tawang since April 3.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be staying at the Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India. The visit despite having aimed to be purely a religious one, Chinese opposition has made it a highly politicized one. The Dalai Lama is being accompanied by the Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and a number of dignitaries in this visit.
Though China consistently claim the areas around Tawang as ‘Southern Tibet’, a part of China, the residents have unquestionable adopted the Indian nationality with pride and respect. The government too have taken the serious risk of ascertaining their authority in the region by facilitating the Dalai Lama’s visit at the request of its residents, thus offending China who claimed that it has damaged the ties between the two.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be in Tawang till April 10 during which he will be blessing the residents and devotes gathered there with several religious teachings.
