In a recent public disclosure His Holiness the 17th Karmapa promised to return to Tibet soon back in 1999 when he fled into exile from Tibet. The Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee said in a public gathering in Canada that he had written a secret note that if he could be of beneficial to Tibet, he would return to Tibet soon.
“After 17-plus years in exile, Karmapa said publicly for first time that he had left a written message behind when he escaped for India in late 1999.” said the report in VOA.
“In it, I wrote I have made many failed efforts to be able to go to abroad. Now, having no other option, I am doing this way as a final solution. However, in the future if I could be beneficial to Tibet, the Land of Snow, I will return soon.’ That’s what I wrote,” he said Sunday, speaking in Tibetan to about 4,000 Tibetans and devotees in Toronto. He had previously said that Chinese authorities turned down his requests to travel to India before his escape.” the report added with the Karmapa’s quote.
Accordingly, the Karmapa then aged 14 in the 2000, while met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Jan 5, he had reportedly informed that he could not serve the Tibetan people in Tibet and therefore came to India. When the Karmapa Rinpoche secretly escaped from Tibet and suddenly showed up at Dharamsala, India in Jan. 5 2000, it shocked the world and shamed the Chinese government.
The Karmapa Rinpoche in response to China’s false claims that he had gone to India to obtain the sacred hat of his predecessor from Rumtek monastery in Sikkim, he asked why would be he bring back the hat?
