Karmapa Promised To Return To Tibet Soon In 1999

In a recent public disclosure His Holiness the 17th Karmapa promised to return to Tibet soon in 1999 when he fled into exile from Tibet. The Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee said in a public gathering in Canada that he had written a secret note that if he could be of beneficial to Tibet, he would return to Tibet soon.

It seems India is convinced to lift the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa’s travel restrictions imposed on him. The Home Ministry has proposed to lift the travel restrictions imposed upon the Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee to the Cabinet Committee on Security. The Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee based in Himachal Pradesh in India has been restricted to travel across India with a condition to seek prior permission from New Delhi.

Sikkim Buddhists demand Karmapa’s early visit permission to the state. A delegation of monks from various monasteries of Sikkim called on the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to give early permission for Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee’s visit to the state as the Sikkim Buddhists consider him as the legitimate heir of the 16th Karmapa.

Allow Karmapa To Visit Sikkim: Monks Enter 33rd Day Of Hunger Strike

The Buddhist monks in Sikkim have started a relay hunger strike or a dharna in demand from the state and the union government of India to allow the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee to visit the state and his righful abode Rumtek monastery. The dharna has entered its 33rd day today and the monks has not received any positive response from both the levels of government.
