According to case report from a medical emergency, a man has ruptured his throat in an attempt to hold his sneeze and the report is terrifying. The English suffered from swallowing difficulties, a hoarse voice, and a popping sensation in his swollen neck after holding a sneeze according to doctor.

‘The patient told them his problems started when he suppressed a forceful sneeze by pinching his nose and closing his mouth. After an X-ray revealed air in his chest and neck, the doctors did a CT scan and discovered that the pressure from the patient’s sneeze had torn through the soft tissue of his throat.” said the report in the Cosmopolitan.

Though the occurrence is an extremely terrifying to hear, it is also a very rare case according the doctors suggestions. It is also being recommended not follow the practicing of holding a sneeze.

“When you sneeze, air comes out of you at about 150 miles per hour. If you retain all that pressure, it could do a lot of damage and you could end up like the Michelin Man with air trapped in your body.” said Dr. Anthony Aymat, director for ear, nose and throat services at London’s University Hospital Lewisham.

Sneezing is a natural phenomena in our body which is meant to throw something out of our body, like viruses and bacteria, so if we try to stop that, those may end up in the wrong part of the body!
