Obama Bows To His ‘Good Friend’ Dalai Lama In Public

In the first ever public appearance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Obama together on Thursday at the annual White House National Prayer Breakfast, Obama did anger the Beijing government by acknowledging the presence of His Holiness by bowing at him. Obama also called the Dalai Lama a ‘good friend’ at the event.

Obama though didn’t meet the Dalai Lama personally at the event where His Holiness was present among the audience, he bowed at the Buddhist spiritual leader and called him a good friend.

The Dalai Lama is “a powerful example of what it means to practice compassion and who inspires us to speak up for the freedom and dignity of all human beings”, Obama said during his speech.

This is the first time the Dalai Lama and Obama seen together in public. Previously there were three instance of their meeting which were held in closed doors. This gesture from US president Barack Obama has fumed the Beijing government as they have always been opposing the foreign heads from meeting the Dalai Lama.
