Poll Declares India Most Dangerous Nation for Women

Poll Declares India Most Dangerous Nation for Women

According to a shocking result from a poll published on Tuesday, India is declared as the most dangerous nation for women. The report is a shocking as India is ranked ahead of popularly abusive countries like that of Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Syria. The officials from Indian government complained of faulty methodology in the poll.

“The Thomson Reuters Foundation released its results Tuesday of a survey of 550 experts on women’s issues, finding India to be the most dangerous nation for sexual violence against women, as well as human trafficking for domestic work, forced labor, forced marriage and sexual slavery, among other reasons.” said the report in CNN on Tuesday.

While most of the government officials have hit back to the poll with outrage, citing that the methodology used in the survey is faulty, the report in the First Post also argues that the survey is grossly hurtful, far too casual and slippery in their conclusions.

“Surveys like this are grossly hurtful, far too casual and slippery in their conclusions. Despite our aberrations and horror stories that hit us in the solar plexus now and then, it is a safe bet that 95 percent of Indian men respect their women, take care of their families and are good providers (as much as possible). For every issue over dowry and violence there are a thousand husbands who get up in the morning and go to work to ensure there is food on the table for their wives and daughters. A hundred thousand sons work in the Gulf to send remittances home to ailing mothers and to get sisters wedded.” said the report in the First Post by Bikran Vohra adding that Indian women are rising in politics, media, business, the armed forces, and farming.

However, according to the poll report, India was also the most dangerous country in the world for cultural traditions that impact women, the survey found, citing acid attacks, female genital mutilation, child marriage and physical abuse. India was the fourth most dangerous country for women in the same survey seven years ago.
