Tibetan Poll Process May Be Revamped For More Positive Democracy

The recent political activity within the exile Tibetan community owing to the elections have been extremely hectic and more importantly beyond the Tibetan moral ethics. Though the elections have been successfully wrapped up with clear results of the next position holders of Tibetan political bodies confirmed by the Tibetan Election Commission, the year long hectic race by the campaigners and their supporters have left a regretful scar in the Tibetan history.

Specifically, the Dalai Lama has been disappointed by the recent campaigning processes which has been spelled out clearly by the oracles when the two finalist candidates for the Sikyong 2016 approached him recently.

However, both of the candidates; Speaker Mr. Penpa Tsering and Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay publicly apologized for the negative impacts incurred upon the Tibetan community by their campaigns and supporters and appealed their supporters to be united for the universal Tibetan cause.

In an interview with the Indian Express, the winner of the Sikyong 2016 elections has said “His Holiness was also a bit upset. He had worked so hard for the unity of Tibetan people and the issues of regionalism, factionalism should not have taken any place in Tibetan society… So, I also said that I fully agree with what they felt about the election procedure”.

“I am in touch with the Election Commission of India. We are bringing in some electoral reforms because nine months is too long a period for any election,” he said.

Whatsoever, the re-elected Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay vowed to continue the “freedom struggle” of the Tibetan people with his second consecutive term at the highest political position in the Tibetan community.
