Tibetan Youth Bags Indian National Film Award 2017

A Tibetan youth has bagged an Indian National Film award for 2017-2018 in the category of best editing. The young Tibetan is the only Tibetan origin to be awarded National Film Awards this year where superstars such as Sri Devi an Vinod Khanna have been felicitated posthumously in recognition of their works.

While the list of winners for the Nation Film Awards has been announced since last month, the felicitation from the president of India took place in a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Thursday afternoon. Tenzin Kunchok has been awarded the ‘Best Editing’ award for his work in the film, Mrityubhoj.

According to the report in Phayul, Tenzin Kunchok, who earlier worked for BBC and NDTV as an editor, has also edited the Tibetan film “Girl from China” directed by Sonam Tseten. He studied at the Tibetan Children’s Village as a day scholar since his parents had settled in Dharamshala in the early years and later studied in the national capital at the Delhi college or Arts and Science.

Kunchok, has edited the film Mrityubhoj this achievement is a huge milestone for the film fraternity from the Tibetan community as such an honour would hugely inspire many other aspirants.
