US Will Fund $19 Million for Tibet Programs in 2020

US Congress Moves Bill to Support Tibet, China Strongly Opposes

As per the approval from both the houses and the President, United States will provide $19 million for Tibet programs in funding. The new spending bills of US includes steady spending support for Tibet programs in the new period. US President Donald Trump signed the final approvals of the spending late last month.

” Steady support for Tibet in the halls of Congress has resulted in the provision of approximately $19 million for vital Tibet programs through the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020 (H.R.1865).” said the report in the official website of International Campaign for Tibet.

“The bill was passed by the House on Oct. 28 and by the Senate on Nov. 12, 2019. After resolving the differences in the two versions, it was presented to President Trump, who signed it on Dec. 20, 2019.” added the report on Friday.

The president of International Campaign for Tibet, Matteo Mecacci called the support very strong, explaining that despite the amount being a minuscule part of the country’s overall foreign aid budget, it yields effective results for the Tibetans.

“The United States Congress has once again provided strong support to the people of Tibet,” said Matteo Mecacci. “While these programs are a minuscule part of America’s overall foreign aid budget, this investment yields big dividends for Tibetans and their efforts to preserve their culture and identity in the face of China’s oppression.”

The Further Consolidated Appropriations bill according to the report, together with the recommendations of the relevant House and Senate Committees and the President’s Budget, provides:
