China Protests PM Modi's Arunachal Pradesh Visit

China firmly protested the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to the Arunachal Pradesh accusing him of complicating the border issues between the two Asian giants. PM Narendra Modi promised of fast paced development in the largest state in the Northeast part of India and China is not appreciating the visit as it does not recognise the state as a part of India.

“China’s position on the China-India boundary question is consistent and clear-cut,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang in response to reports that PM Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh today. “The Chinese government has never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader’s visit to the disputed area,” Mr Geng was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency.

While China claim for the territorial dispute over the region by constantly pushing over the border lines where guards are heavily stationed by both sides since China took over Tibet in 1959, India commands territorial sovereignty over the region as a state, an integral part of the country.

“The Chinese side urges the Indian side to honour its commitment and abide by the relevant consensus, and refrain from taking any action that may complicate the boundary question,” Mr Geng saying that they will lodge stern representations with the Indian side.
