Karmapa Thaye Dorjee Marries To Long Time Friend

Karmapa Thaye Dorjee, one of the two proclaimed incarnation of oldest incarnate lineages of Tibetan religious history breaks monkhood to marry long time friend. Trinley Thaye Dorje is the contesting incarnate lama to be the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa of Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

“Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, is delighted to share the wonderful news that he has married in a private ceremony.” announced the official website the Karmapa on Wednesday.

The announcement said that the Karmapa is following the footprints of his predecessor and he hopes that  his karmic connection with his wife, Rinchen Yangzom, will further strengthen the Karma Kagyu lineage and the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

“I have a strong feeling, deep within my heart, that my decision to marry will have a positive impact not only for me, but also for the lineage. Following the wishes of my parents, and having had time to reflect, I deeply feel that I am being true to both myself and the lineage. Something beautiful, something beneficial will emerge, for all of us.” said the Karmapa in his statement shared in the website.

The Karmapa married Rinchen Yangzom, who was born in Bhutan to a businessman father and homemaker mother. While her early education was in Bhutan, she has studied in India and in Europe. She lives in New Delhi and the two shares an incredible bond of friendship for the last 19 years.

Karmapa Thaye Dorjee continue all the activities of the position except conducting ordinations. He also says that his commitment is to protect and preserve the monastic sangha, and the lineage, which remains paramount in his life.
