“The House resolution — introduced by Congressman Ted Yoho and co-sponsored by Michael McCaul, Chris Smith and George McGovern — recognises the significance of the genuine autonomy of Tibet and the Tibetan people and the work the 14th Dalai Lama has done to promote global peace, harmony and understanding.” Said the report published by Press Trust of India (PTI).

While China has been mostly offended by the US ambassador-at-large for Religious Freedom Samuel D Brownback travelling to Dharamsala in India to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama and discussed ways to advance religious freedom, the US lawmakers introduced yet another resolution in support of the Tibetans and His Holiness.

When the senior US official stated that the Tibetan people only has the right to decide on the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, China hit back at the US alleging interference in the internal matter of the country. Last December, US congress unanimously approved the Reciprocal Access to Tibet act which was later signed into law by president Donald Trump. The policy prohibits visas for Chinese officials who deny access to Tibet for US officials, journalists and other citizens including Tibetan Americans.
