A Tibetan music producer’s fight against the covid 19 pandemic

Dharamshala, 26th July: Travel became more difficult as a result of the Chinese Covid-19 pandemic, affecting the living conditions of many people around the world. However, music producer Tsewang Tharchin, based in Dharamshala, overcame the challenges posed by the Chinese virus and established a music studio here in Dharamshala. Tsewang Tharchin talks about his fight to open a music studio in Dharamshala in an interview with VOA. Following are some excerpts from the interview taken by VOA.

Biography:

Tsewang Tharchin’s grandfather used to be a Nyawa (traditional Tibetan marriage singer), and he became interested in music after hearing his grandfather sing. As his interest in music grew, he began to meet people and took advantage of opportunities at school. He grew interested in any musical instrument that he could find, his first musical instrument was the flute, he also joined the TCV school band. As a result, he got more enthusiastic about this field.

Meeting His Holiness:

After an extensive search for an institution in Chennai which he wasn’t satisfied with any institute, one of his friends recommended to him audio engineering in Pune. The most essential aspect of the Pune institute was that he had a fantastic teacher, which piqued his attention. He witnessed zeal, enjoyment, and hard labor that was not exhausting.

He had the honor of seeing His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama after completing college. When His Holiness inquired, “What are you doing?” He replied that he works in the field of audio engineering. Very good, said His Holiness. With that, he declares that this is the nicest thing that has ever happened to him. He stated that the most important thing right now is to work.

How he Overcame Difficulties:

In his one-room apartment in McleodGanj, he constructed his first studio. This made working tough, so he created a separate studio. Later, he had to close his studio due to its high location, and because he was married and had a child, he felt obligated to look after his family.

He and his wife embarked on their first winter business trip before the shutdown. They returned to Dharamshala with the money they had made, but the lockdown had begun, and he was fortunate enough to be able to get a house for the studio building. He and his wife built the studio by using a webcam to keep an eye on their newborn. They were having trouble finding workers. But, out of excitement, he rushed to the completion of his second studio. With the lockdown came a stringent travel prohibition, which resulted in huge unemployment, including Tsewang Tharchin. He felt depressed, but not hopeless, and he fought the pandemic and won. Now he is back on track. (No pun intended)
