KFC which has suffered food suppliers scandals that maimed its business prowess in China region for last decade, it has brought back its 11 year old plan to set up its United States style fried chicken in Tibet. It is preparing to open its first outlet in Tibetan Capital, Lhasa in a fresh strategy to expand its business in Tibet and China regions. After business blunders that severely destroyed its business in the region and opposition from the exiled Tibetan Spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama more than a decade ago, Yum franchise which owns KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands moves on in the region.
Yum has been working on winning back the customer trust after negative publicity that stemmed from food supply controversies. Last year, Yum’s suppliers publicly apologised for supplying expired food. Despite citing ‘economically not feasible’ for KFC business in Tibet in 2004, KFC is set to open its first KFC restaurant in Lhasa, capital of Tibet.
“The restaurant will incorporate local design elements, provide employment opportunities and support the development of the regional supply chain,” a company representative cited in an interview.
The challenge is clear out there for Yum Franchise as the economy is not very stable while at the same time, people have become more cautious for healthier food and opting local dishes. Yum currently runs around 6900 restaurants across China and it is inviting more investors to expand its business across China and Tibet.
The restaurant is set to open in Lhasa by as early as January, 2015.
