China’s New University Guidelines Says No Admission to Dalai Lama Supporters

With the publication of new admission rules, it is now official that China will not admit students supporting Dalai Lama to their colleges. The largest University in the China’s designated Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet University has now ruled not to admit Dalai Lama supporters. Official terms in reference here are political attitude and moral ideology.

China’s Ministry of Education has recently published its new regulations for admissions to colleges and universities in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The Tibet Autonomous Region’s 2022 Regular College Admissions Regulations, was published in Chinese earlier in April this year. While there were standard regulatory sections, the Bitter Winter magazine has noted in their report that from section 12 they have noticed something very different.

“However, from Section 12 on we are confronted with something different. Under the heading “Ideological and Political Morality Assessment,” it is explained that being an outstanding student is not enough to be admitted to a university in Tibet. Actually, “ideological and political morality” is the “main” standard for admission.” said the report by Bitter Winter magazine.

The report added that the academic authorities “shall make a comprehensive appraisal of the examinee’s political attitude and ideological morality, and be responsible for its authenticity.” Since in an interview the candidates can try to fool them, they should consult the Communist Party officers of the city or village where each candidate lives.

It is reported to have strictly warned the officials to ensure that any candidate should not have participated or supported in words or deeds, activities, or movements that endanger the national unity. It is clearly interpreted by every Tibetan what they are referring to. China’s crackdown on Tibetans showing any sign of support towards their spiritual leader Dalai Lama and the exile administration are criminalized and convicted as separatists. It is not a new thing for the Tibetans to hear this but the surprising part now is that it has been officially published and openly practicing this discrimination.
