Dalai Lama contributes to PM-CARES Fund As India battles COVID-19

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama announced on Tuesday that he would contribute to the PM-CARES Fund to help India battle the “alarming COVID-19 surge.” “I have been observing the Covid-19 pandemic’s continuing threat around the world, including in India, with concern,” his holiness said in a statement.

“As a token of our solidarity with fellow Indian brothers and sisters, I have asked the Dalai Lama Trust to make a donation to the PM-CARES Fund at this crucial period, during this alarming Covid-19 surge,” his holiness added.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for all of the efforts being made to combat this devastating pandemic, especially by those bravely working on the front lines. I hope the pandemic danger is over soon “His Holiness added.

According to data updated on Tuesday by the Union Health Ministry, India’s cumulative count of COVID-19 cases has climbed to 1,76,36,307, while the national recovery rate has fallen to 82.54 percent.

The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund was established by the Centre in March 2020 with the primary goal of dealing with any type of emergency situation, such as the one raised by the COVID-19 outbreak, and providing relief to those affected.
