Dharamshala, 19^th August: Sikyong Penpa Tsering stated on Wednesday that the information flow from Tibet had severely decreased over the years owing to intense repression and monitoring, making it difficult to assess the situation within Tibet. He was speaking at the Tibet Policy Institute’s seventh Young Tibetan Research Scholars Conference, which he organized. Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the two-day annual conference is being held online, with 33 researchers from around the world participating, including Tibetan Ph.D. scholars and Ph.D. candidates.

Sikyong indicated that the number of Tibetans fleeing to exile has dropped as a result of increased border surveillance; he also stated that just five Tibetans fled in 2020 and seven in 2021. He also stated that the number of persons who can speak regarding the situation in Tibet based on personal experience is dwindling.

According to the 54-year-old exile leader, India and other nations have prohibited the few lines of communication between people inside and outside Tibet for security reasons owing to geopolitical reasons. Sikyong also warned Tibetans to be wary of Chinese attempts to incite strife among the Tibetan exile population.
