Dharamshala, 9th September: According to Tibet.net, On September 3, Chinese authorities detained eight more Tibetans, including six monks from Dza Wonpo Gaden Shedrup Monastery and two women from Dza Wonpo township in Sershul (Ch: Shiqu) county in Kham Kardze (Ch: Ganzi). Following two recent incidents in which police and military personnel arrested and imprisoned 113 people for either having photographs of His Holiness the Dalai Lama or dealing with Tibetans in exile, the arrests last Friday were made.
Chinese forces in Dza Wonpo township have imprisoned 121 Tibetans in less than two weeks, including monks and laypeople. So far, only four people (a monk, a woman, and two males) have been released. The remainder, on the other hand, is still being held in Sershul county.
As per Tibet.net, the names and details of the eight people arrested last Friday have yet to be revealed. According to accounts, each monk was led by a group of Dza Mey police and military officers (lower Dzachukha). Before transporting them to Sershul County, the officials searched their homes thoroughly. Sershul county was also visited by the two women.
The reason for the current arrests is unknown, but according to an anonymous source who spoke to the Tibet Post, “For many years, Tibetans and monks in Wonpo have volunteered to teach the Tibetan language to local Tibetans, and there is a group in Wonpo called the ‘Mother Language Protection Group’. The Tibetans detained are members of this group.”
