Leh Hill Council to Renovate His Holiness’ Official Ladakh Residence, Phodang Gepheling

Dharamshala, 8th August: The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) has chosen to repair Gepheling Phodang at Shiwa Tsel (Ladakhi: Jive Tsal), His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s official dedicated house in Ladakh, at the request of the Chief Representative’s Office in Leh.

On Friday, August 6, Shri Tashi Gyalson, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, paid a visit to Phodang Gepheling. He reviewed several approaches for the renovation and additional infrastructure required at the Phodang after analyzing the existing infrastructure. He was accompanied by Nisar Ahmed, Executive Engineer, Construction Division Leh, Tsetan Wangchuk, Tibetan Chief Representative Officer, Ladakh, and Ven Tenzin Zopa, Phodang Gepheling’s caretaker.

In consideration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s health and senior age, the LAHDC decided to give the greatest possible amenities to His Holiness the Dalai Lama during his stay at the Phodang in Ladakh. Shri Gyalson also promised to install an elevator at the Phodang for the Tibetan spiritual leader’s convenience and directed Xen Construction to create a DPR as well as renovate the current roads within the Phodang’s grounds with suitable blacktopping.

CEC Shri Gyalson also visited with Ven. Thupten Ngodup, the official medium of the Nechung Oracle, to seek blessings. Ven Thupten is currently staying in the Phodang Gepheling in Ladakh on a visit. Ven Zopa, Phodang Gepheling’s caretaker, expressed his gratitude to CEC Shri Gyalson for visiting Phodang and ensuring its rehabilitation.
