Pakistan media applauds China’s treatment of the Xinjiang region.

Dharamshala, 20th December: Recently the US has sanctioned China over its treatment of the Uyghurs. Because of China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims, countries such as the United States and other Western countries are boycotting Beijing 2022 Olympics diplomatically, but no Muslim nation has done so far.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani news outlet released an article applauding China’s treatment of Uyghurs. The article went into great detail about how the region thrived under Chinese authority. The paper argued that China required vocational training in Xinjiang in order to combat terrorist activity. The article stated that “Vocational Training Centres played a vital role in the Chinese war against extremism.” Keep in mind that Pakistan is a predominantly Muslim country.

The article claims that “It took almost 20 years for the US to recognize ETIM listing as a terrorist organization as a strategic blunder. Therefore the USA revoked ETIM designation as a terrorist organization in November 2020. Such a policy after so many years raises multiple questions and brings confusion regarding US strategy towards WOT. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that the decision exposed the Trump Administration’s double standards towards counter-terrorism”

Pakistan has been silent about China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims since the former nation requires economic assistance from China and is reliant on it for progress. China constructs dams, motorways, power plants, and other infrastructure in Pakistan at relatively low credit rates. However, Pakistan continues to default on its debt payments, forcing them to lease ports and offer access to natural resources, among other things.

China has improved its defense capabilities in recent years. China’s rising military presence in Pakistan and other developing countries demonstrates just how far the country’s military technology has progressed. Pakistan and China collaborated to develop the J-17 fighter jet, which serves as the backbone of Pakistan’s air force. Pakistan takes pride in the jet’s indigenous design and capabilities. But the truth is that the technology is from China, even though the jet is constructed in Pakistan.
