A Tibetan Killed By Chinese Restaurant Employer in France

In a surprising case of tragic loss, a young Tibetan man was killed by his Chinese restaurant employer in France. This is another case of homicide cursing the Tibetan exile community but is much more sensitive as the accused is of Chinese origin. According to the latest updates from the case, many Tibetans are emotionally disturbed by this incident as they suspect racial motives behind the murder.

Tsultrim, 32 of Tibetan origin born in Lithang, Kham region of Tibet was killed in a brutal stabbing and accused to have been perpetrated by his Chinese restaurant employer and others. The local police investigating the case have arrested three people including two owners of the Chinese restaurant he is employed at and another employee. The incident took place on Monday and the victim died just minutes after being stabbed.

Local Tibetan people accuse the restaurant owners to be mistreating their Tibetan origin employees in the past. Tsultrim has been employed recently at the restaurant, Délices d’Asie (Delights of Asia) in Saint-Léonard, France. These Tibetans are emotionally invested in this case especially due to the political situation where China’s invasion of Tibet has forced them to obtain a refuge in a foreign country. The police are charging the accused with the deliberate murder case and further details about are awaited.

Following the incident, a significant number of Tibetan refugees working at various Chinese restaurants voluntarily left their jobs and started sharing their solidarity. Due to the political situation, these Tibetans are seeking such jobs out of necessity and such incidents are adding fuel to their injury, as they are very prone to being exploited.

According to Phayul.com, various Tibetan associations based in France have organized a peace march on Sunday in Paris from Place de la Bastille to République in the memory of the deceased and to show solidarity with the victim’s family. Another march will take place in Saint-Léonard on Monday, followed by a prayer gathering on July 24.
