A Tibetan Man Dies of COVID-19 in Majnu Ka Tilla, Delhi

In a tragic report from the national capital of India, a Tibetan has died of Coronavirus on Tuesday. According to fresh sources, a Tibetan man’s test results for the Wuhan virus has come out to be positive. This is the second COVID-19 death and the third confirmed case of infection among the Tibetan refugees in the country.

A business man by profession, the Tibetan was 62 years old living at the Tibetan colony, Majnu Ka Tilla in New Delhi. The victim was unwell in the recent past and he passed away on Tuesday. Today his test result for Coronavirus came out positive, creating a huge concern for the authorities and the residents there. According to local sources, the person had pre-existing health issues which is evidently proving lethal in case of Coronavirus infections.

The first Tibetan infected with coronavirus in India passed away in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh earlier this year after returning from United States. A Tibetan woman recently tested positive to virus is now receiving treatment from local government hospital in Dalhousie. With the staggered opening of India, several parts of the country earlier known to be free of the infection discovered cases in people returning from different places.

Last week an Indian lady residing in the Tibetan colony was test positive when she was brought to hospital due to complications during her child delivery. The local authorities have quarantined Tibetan nurses who into contact while helping the woman. The area was also sanitized with the help Delhi Municipal Corporation.

As per the latest update, there are 213 cases of Coronavirus infections among Tibetan refugees abroad, i.e., those refugees in countries apart from India, Nepal and Bhutan. This is as per the information sent by the Offices of Tibet from various countries. According to the information, there are 8 deaths while 165 of them have recovered. This leaves a total of 40 active cases in Tibetans abroad.
