A Tibetan Soldier in Indian Army Killed by Chinese Army: Report

A Tibetan soldier in Indian army has been killed by Chinese army in a sad development from the border regions in Ladakh. According to confirmed reports, a Tibetan of Company leader rank has been killed by Chinese army while on patrol duty. In addition to that, the Company leader’s junior has also been injured in the incident that took place on Saturday night.

Tibetan origin Nyima Tenzin serving the rank of Company leader in Indian army has been killed by a gunshot in the neck according to the breaking report by the Tibet Sun on Tuesday. Apart from the 53 year old Company Leader, a 24 year old junior, also of Tibetan origin has been injured by Chinese soldiers.

“Company Leader Nyima Tenzin, 51, was reportedly killed by a gunshot in the neck. He is said to be from the Tibetan settlement in Choglamsar near Ladakh’s capital Leh. The injured is Tenzin Loden, 24. The incident took place on Saturday night.” said the report by Tibet Sun on Tuesday.

Both men were from the 7th battalion of the Special Frontier Force (SFF), also known as Establishment 22, which is a unit made up of Tibetans under the Indian army. Within the Indian army the Tibetan unit is known as the “Vikas battalion”, added the report. Major news agencies reported that Indian soldiers thwarted an attempt by Chinese soldiers to occupy some heights near the southern bank of Pang Gong Tso on Saturday night.

Tibetan soldiers stationed at the nearby Thakung post intervened to prevent the PLA soldiers from building. Physical clashes followed that left dozens of Chinese soldiers injured. There were no reports of firing at the site.

The border forces of China and India engaged a violent clash earlier this year. Twenty Indian soldiers including a colonel has been martyred while China has reported more than 43 casualties from the scuffle in June, despite efforts to resolve the dispute peacefully.The Chinese army have not retreated completely even after multiple levels of talks, leading to a protracted stand off along the border.
