First Tibetan UFC Fighter Wins Stateside Debut With a 44 Seconds KO

The first Tibetan UFC fighter Sonam Dhargye aka The Tibetan Eagle claimed a promising victory in his stateside debut. In his fight against the Canadian fighter in Las Vegas on Sunday, Sonam knocked out his opponent in just 44 seconds. The fight has impressed his fans especially the Tibetans based inside as well as outside Tibet.

The Tibetan Eagle who fights with official Chinese name of Su Mudaerji represented China at the UFC Las Vegas 15. He made his stateside debut fight on Sunday where he fought against the Canadian Malcolm Gordon in the UFC’s flyweight division. Following the victory, the Tibetan fighter told that he would like to fight against a top ranking in the next match.

The win took Sonam’s record to 13-4, with now nine first-round finishes and Gordon was basically picked apart from the moment they touched gloves. The Canadian (12-5) wore the first punch Su threw, and ducked and weaved but the Chinese fighter kept throwing – and landing, with six finding their mark, bang on the button, before the lights went out and Gordon tumbled to the right, and to the canvas, according to the SCMP report.

Sonam Dhargye hailing from the Aba region in Sichuan with the nickname, ‘The Tibetan Eagle’. The 24-year-old Tibetan fighter has a presence in the Chinese MMA circle with an impressive 12-3-0 fighting record in his MMA career so far. Dhargye is gathering a huge fan following especially from the Tibetan community. Despite Tibetans are a peace loving national, people are proud of his presence in the elite international fighting championship; being the first to do so among the Tibetans.
