Question of Samdhong Rinpoche’s China Visit a Personal Matter

During the last day of the budget session of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, President of Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay told at in the parliament that the question of former Tibetan political head Professor Samdhong Rinpoche’s visit to China is a personal matter and it can not be discussed on the floor of the parliament.

Last December, The Wire broke a news of Professor Samdhong Rinpoche having made a secret visit to China where he was also reportedly facilitated by You Quan in the second half of November last year. President Sangay when faced with the question over the report while he was attending a talk in New Delhi, he told that though he is not aware of the visit he hinted that it could at most be a private visit and it should not be read too much in it.

However, the former head of CTA, Professor Samdhong Rinpoche refuted in an interview following the breaking of the news and informed that the news speculations of his visit to China did not have any truth. As expected, when a member of the parliament raised this question in the parliament, President Sangay told that it is a question of Professor’s personal matter and it can not be discussed in the parliament.

In addition to that, Dr. Sangay informed in the parliament that following the recent unfurling of the political scenarios, China is keeping a close scrutiny at the Middle way policy of the Central Tibetan Administration. He also added that the administration is continuously working at resumption of the Sino-Tibet negotiations for the resolution of the Tibet issue through dialogue.
