Tenzin Tsedup becomes the first Tibetan American to be elected to a community college in the state of Virginia. He was elected chairman of the NOVA community college’s student council after winning a majority of the votes in the race. Here is the story about the young Tibetan student in the United States who has brought his identity of being a Tibetan origin to the forefront.

He is a Tibetan student at NOVA community college studying economics and psychology. The 19 years old was elected as the chairman of student council. He was born and raised in the United States and is of Tibetan descent. He stated during his election campaign that he will lead the student government association through teamwork and communication focused on compassion and that he has the confidence and willingness to represent the students with these three virtues.
NOVA community college is America’s second-biggest education center. There are currently more than  75,000 students.

Tenzin Tsedup was elected in Annandale with 18,000 students. He previously worked with his college’s student association. On weekends, he also instructs Tibetan children aged 6 to 8 years old. There are many Tibetan youth in western countries, such as America, who have held leadership roles and responsibilities.

His mandate calls for him to focus on education-related issues as well as current student issues. He sees this as an opportunity to give back to the community. He described a leader as “a broad mined, logical, problem-solver, as well as motivational and inspirational.”

An ex-chairman of the NOVA community college, Kongorzul, said “Tenzin Tsedup possesses all of the qualities that make a great leader. I particularly like his proposal to bring potential like-minded people to SEE (Social, Emotional, and Ethical) learning because it aligns with His Holiness The Dalai Lama’s goals.”
