Tibetans Collectively Donating to PM Cares Fund to Support India’s Fight Against COVID-19

Dharamshala, 29th April: India continues to be engulfed by its second wave of covid-19, with cumulative deaths hitting a sobering milestone of 201,187. As India faces a severe COVID-19 epidemic, people worldwide have banded together to assist India in its battle against the disease. Several countries around the world have come forward and are offering humanitarian assistance to India in this hour of crisis.

Tibetans owe a debt of gratitude to the Indian government and citizens for all of their assistance for all these years. As India urgently needs help, Tibetans are rushing to donate to the PM CARES fund. The Tibetan government in exile, as well as organizations and individuals, have the opportunity to repay the Indian people.

Tibetans are contributing to the PM Cares fund in large numbers and promoting the fundraising mission on social media sites including Facebook and Instagram.

In previous years, as well as this year, Tibetan monasteries in India have contributed to the PM Cares fund. Tibetan monasteries in Karnataka, India’s southern coast state, had donated and assisted the state the previous year.

The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) has appealed to Tibetan communities around the world to contribute to India’s ongoing relief efforts through the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund, as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread (PM CARES Fund).

The CTA has declared that its officials and employees will donate their daily salaries to the PM CARES Fund to help the government combat the pandemic. This is the second such initiative of the Tibetan government in exile to contribute towards the efforts of India’s fight against the pandemic.

Individuals, organizations, and institutions are urged to contribute to the PM care through the respective Settlement Offices based in India and offices of Tibet abroad by May 7 at the latest.

Settlement Offices and Offices of Tibet have been advised to initiate the collection efforts immediately.
