Tibetans in Belgium Hold Green Book Day Event

Dharamshala, 12th October: On Saturday, the Belgium Tibetan Community Association hosted a two-day Green Book Day celebration in Antwerpen, Belgium’s most Tibetan-populated city, according to Tibet.net. Due to overwhelming demand, it had to be replayed on Sunday as well.

As per Tibet.net Green Book Day was created with the sole purpose of ensuring that every Tibetan residing in Belgium has a green book. The event was designed to promote green books, the creation of new green books, and other connected issues such as dues collection. Despite the fact that there are over 6000 Tibetans living in Belgium, only about 2000 people contribute to the green book. The fact that 60 to 70% of Tibetans in Belgium do not pay voluntary contributions is alarming. Tibetan Community Association’s President Mr. Palden Tsering said that the Community will do all possible to ensure that every Tibetan resident in Belgium has a green book. He expressed gratitude to the Office of Tibet in Brussels for their support of the occasion.

Green Book Day also featured a number of additional activities. Sherab Nangje, a Tibetan weekend school in Belgium, sold a variety of Tibetan dishes. The students performed a number of Tibetan traditional dances and songs in the evening. Around 1500 Tibetans attended the ceremony. Out of 100 green books, 50 were new green books, and 50 cases of other relevant concerns received a total of 30,000 euros.
