US Denies Visa to Tibetan National Women’s Soccer Team

The Tibetan National Women’s Soccer Team which is based in India was denied the visa by the United States Embassy in New Delhi very recently when the Tibetan National Sports Association applied for the team’s US visa. The team was scheduled to take part in the Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup 2018 in New York and New Jersey.

According to the Facebook post by the secretary of Tibetan National Sports Association TNSA, Mr. Passang Dorjee on Saturday, it was informed that the US Embassy in New Delhi denied their request for visa to the team members of Tibetan National Women’s soccer team wherein he told that the embassy cited difficulty in issuing the visa.

A young team consisting 16 Tibetan girls were given training by the TNSA from the beginning of this year as a part of empowering the Tibetan National Women’s soccer team. They were scheduled to take part in the Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup 2018 in New York and New Jersey. They were also planning visits to Madison and Minnesota, then to the Washington D.C.

While the TNSA secretary told that they will continue to make efforts for seeking US visa, they are also applying for Canada visa to visit Toronto to take part in scheduled events. This is the second incident where the US denied visa for Tibetan women’s soccer team. Last year, US national Cassie Childers undertook the Tibetan Women’s Soccer Team from India and Nepal to take part in the famous Dallas Cup. However, they were also denied the US visa and it could not participate in the Dallas Cup.
