‘I Have Lived My Life’: 85 Years Old Man Dies After Giving Up his Hospital Bed to a Younger Patient

Nagpur: In a heartbreaking incident, an 85-year-old man risked his own life to save the life of a 40-year-old man by leaving his hospital bed, despite doctors’ warnings. The elderly man, identified as Narayan Dabhalkar, voluntarily walked out of a Nagpur hospital to save the life of a younger patient. He died, however, on Monday at his house.

On April 22, Dabhalkar was admitted to Nagpur’s Indira Gandhi government hospital with acute Covid 19 symptoms and low oxygen levels. However, just a few hours later, he chose to discharge himself against medical advice and return home. What is the explanation for this? He saw a woman weeping and pleading for her 40-year-old husband to be admitted while he was at the hospital. And his children were in tears. In order to assist him, Dabhalkar gave up his bed in order to save the life of a much younger boy.

“I am 85 years old. My life has come to an end. It is more important to save the life of a young man. Their kids are still young… “Please give them my bed,” he said to the doctors.

Despite doctors’ advice that care was needed, he stuck to his guns and died three days after being returned home.

“My father said that he would rather spend his final days with us than in the hospital. He also mentioned the young patient. “I’ve lived my life and would rather leave it to fate than block a bed for two or three days at the expense of a younger patient,” his daughter Aasawari said.
